This lovely Late 20th Century English Porcelain Cake or Cheese Stand bears all of the hallmarks of Reg Johnson’s multi-faceted talent, not only as designer, but also as potter and painter. The wintry scene here depicted, superbly painted with a group of three stags foraging in the snow, all within a gilded border, offers the perfect introduction to the works of this talented Staffordshire artist, examples of whose work may now be viewed at The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery. This example signed on the obverse, Reginald Johnson, and on the reverse, ORIGINAL PAINTING by Studio Potter Reg Johnson 1988.
