Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Figure ~ “Lang Syne” ~ H a969

An amusing Late 19th Century Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Figure Group, “Lang Syne” ~ H a969, depicting three “Robert Burns” characters seated at a table. All are dressed in Tam O’Shanters, neckties, shirts, jackets, waistcoats and trousers. The man on the right holds a mug in his left hand, his left foot resting upon his right knee; the man in the middle holds a jug, whilst their companion on the left is notionally holding a pipe in his right hand. The title, “Lang Syne” in gilt script. In Harding’s illustration of this figure, { Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835 – 1875 : Book Three : Page 79 }, the pipe is clearly present, however, the figure itself is untitled. The absence of the pipe from this example would point to this being a late version of the figure, produced from a well worn mould.
