A most attractive Early 19th Century Antique English Victorian Papier-mâché Ladies Needlework Casket, profusely inlaid with abalone shell pearl and heightened with gilding. The two hinged panels decorated with images of churches, each within a framework of foliage, the handle fixed, the interior retaining it’s original lining paper. Sadly now with no Maker’s name, but merely the remains of a paper label which can be seen affixed to the base of the piece. Almost certainly made in Wolverhampton, the centre of the papier-mâché industry in England at this period.
Height to top of handle ~ 19.00 cm. / 7.50 inches ~ Width ~ 28.50 cm. / 11.25 inches ~ Depth ~ 25.50 cm. / 10.00 inches ~ Year ~ Circa 1840.
