Description
A fine and scarce Early 18th Century Antique English Georgian Bronze Candlestick, the knopped octagonal column rising from a stepped foot of complementary design, the socket pierced such that the spent candle stub could be pricked out. This early feature predates the introduction of the internal push-rod ejector which first made an appearance circa 1720, although clearly the use of both methods of removal continued for many years. This attractive example offered here with a warm soft colour and patina. For similar examples, see Chapter 11 of Ronald F. Michaelis : “Old Domestic Base Metal Candlesticks”.
