A good Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Brass Down-hearth Skillet, the heavy gauge brass pan held within a decorative wrought iron frame. These were in use from medieval times and were used for cooking over an open fire, the device simply pushed into the hearth to sit among the flames while the contents were cooking. Although the basic design of such utensils remained unaltered over the centuries, this example probably dates from the Late Georgian period.
