Contact UsThis large and impressive Late 18th Century Antique Dutch Delftware Polychrome Vase and Cover of octagonal form was produced Circa 1775 and stands 47.00 cm. / 18.50 inches high. The decoration, in soft shades of blue, green, yellow ochre and aubergine depicts, on the obverse, a regal figure whom we believe to represent King Henri IV of France, attired in a suit of armour. The sides and reverse are naively painted with sprays of flowers, while the cover is surmounted by a finial in the form of a bird pecking a plum. The underside of the base bears an underglaze blue painted mark formed of the initials C.B. surmounted by a crown and a cross. This mark was, until recently, attributed to the Early 18th Century Brussels atelier of Corneille Mombaers and Thierry Witsenburg, but current scholarship has, so we understand, declared against this. An imposing and decorative piece of polychrome Delftware, fit to grace the finest collection.
