| Antique English Victorian Brass Bottle Chimney Spit Jack
|
A good Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Brass Bottle Chimney Spit Jack, complete with iron plate and all it's hooks and, unusually, with it's original heart shaped brass winding key. The escutcheon stamped Geo. Salter & Co. IMPROVED warranted. All complete, with just a small dent to the back of the case. Whilst the mechanism can be wound, we suspect that the spring is either worn or broken and thus will require to be repaired / replaced before the item will function for it's original purpose. A hard to find decorative period accessory for the inglenook chimney of a country kitchen. Spit jacks hung in the chimney and were used to ensure that the meat, which hung from the hooks on the iron plate was evenly cooked. Having been wound up, the mechanism slowly unwound, turning the jack and thus the meat, over the fire. Height : 47.00 cm. / 18.50 inches : Width : 15.80 cm. / 6.25 inches : Date : Circa 1860 : Ref. AVBBCSJ.

| Antique English Victorian Brass Gothic Oil Lamp |
An unusual and interesting Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Oil Lamp of superb quality. The form of the column, in the Gothic taste, clearly influenced by the work of the Architect and Designer, A.W.N. Pugin { 1812 - 1852 }. The brass of deep glowing colour, the frosted white glass font deeply etched with clear floral sprays, the complementary cranberry glass shade, of the period, and attractively etched with a floral design.
N.B. This lamp has at some time been drilled and converted for use with electricity, and is here offered, minus burner, purely as a decorative item. Should it be required for practical use, it would be a simple matter for a professionally qualified Electrician to re-wire the lamp to current UK PAT { Portable Appliance Testing } standards. Height ~ 62.80 cm. / 24.75 inches ~ Width ~ 17.80 cm. / 7.00 inches ~ Depth ~ 17.80 cm. / 7.00 inches ~ Year ~ Circa 1865. ~ Ref. AVBGOL/SB.

| Antique English Victorian Brass Lion Doorstop |
This well cast Late 19th Century Antique English Victorian Brass "Lion" Doorstop would originally have had an iron weight inserted in the base in order to give added stability when placed to hold open a heavy door. The face bearing the title in raised capitals, "THE BRITISH LION". Height : 22.20 cm. / 8.75 inches : Width : 21.60 cm. / 8.50 inches : Depth : 4.40 cm. / 1.75 inches : Year : Circa 1895. Ref.
