| A History of English Furniture : Percy MacQuoid
A fine clean copy of "A History of English Furniture", by Percy MacQuoid, originally published between the years 1904 - 1908, and long out of print, original copies being now both rare and costly. This edition, published by Bracken Books of London in 1988 includes for the first time in one volume, the complete text and all 900 plus illustrations, including all of the colour plates. MacQuoid divided the history of English furniture into four periods; The Age of Oak, 1500 - 1660, that period of the Renaissance when furniture evolved from the Gothic forms of the Middle Ages and decorative furniture was for the first time gradually introduced into private houses : The Age of Walnut, 1660 - 1720, the period in England from the Restoration of Charles II to the death of Queen Anne which saw Dutch influence at it's height : The Age of Mahogany, 1720 - 1770, when the new ideas from France and French influence on furniture design first began to be felt in England, and finally, The Age of Satinwood, 1770 - 1829, the classical age of furniture design known best for the work of Chippendale, Hepplewhite and Sheraton. Techniques of research and information have changed greatly since this superb work was first published, but these four volumes remain in both presentation and scope the benchmark against which all other books on English furniture are measured and judged. Hard covers, Ultra large format, 416 pages, original dust jacket. Ref. AHOEFPM/D6.

| Antique English Edwardian Commemorative Semi-Porcelain Plate : "Primitive Methodist Centenary 1807 - 1907"
An interesting Early 20th Century Antique English Edwardian Commemorative Plate in Royal Semi-Porcelain by Wood and Sons of Burslem, Staffordshire, issued in 1907, to mark the centenary of the Primitive Methodists' First Camp Meeting, held at Mow Cop on 31 May 1807. Primitive Methodism was seen to originate in this All Day of Prayer ( often miscalled a "Camp Meeting" ), and this led, in 1811, to two groups joining together, the 'Camp Meeting Methodists' and the 'Clowesites', led by Hugh Bourne and William Clowes respectively. This lovely plate is decorated with transfer prints, heightened with gold lustre, depicting these two leading preachers together with notable chapels of the movement, all to be found in "the Potteries". The reverse printed with details of the movement's membership beneath the title, "What God Hath Wrought!", this all enclosed within a scrolled cartouche below which is the Registration No. 491901 together with the Maker's Mark. Width : 22.80 cm. / 9.00 inches : Year : Circa 1907. Ref. AECPPMC.

The flying bird finial appears at some time to have lost one wingtip, but this does nothing to detract from the beauty of this lovely old piece. Height : 31.70 cm. / 12.50 inches : Width : 22.80 cm. / 9.00 inches : Depth : 3.80 cm. / 1.50 inches : Year : Circa 1910. Ref. AEIPF/1.

| Antique English Georgian "Liverpool" Copper Quart Measure
A rare Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Copper Quart Measure, of uncommon form, bearing upon the neck, the Excise stamp of a Liver bird for the Borough of Liverpool. The Weights and Measures Acts of 1824 and 1825, only slowly took effect outside of the main commercial centres of the United Kingdom. Liverpool however, being the country's leading seaport stood in the vanguard of their implementation, and this scarce example of a quart measure is as fine an example of the period as one is ever likely to find. For a comparable piece see Peter Hornsby, "Collecting Antique Copper and Brass", Page 199, Moorland Publishing, Ashbourne, 1989. Height : 19.00 cm. / 7.50 inches : Width : 15.20 cm. / 6.00 inches : Depth to include handle : 17.80 cm. / 7.00 inches : Year : Circa 1826. Ref. AGLCQM.
